Sounds like???

You have just arrived on planet Earth from a far away galaxy called Xanthropia. In the galaxy Xanthropia there are no musical instruments. You have been sent on a mission to investigate and organise musical instruments earthlings use to make sounds. Once you have accomplished this mission you will need to use earthling materials to make an instrument to take back to Xanthropia.

MISSION TASK 1   Investigate Sounds

Your first job is to visit important earthling music centres and investigate the sounds. Click on the pictures below.

MISSION TASK 2  Group the Sounds

Step 1    Choose your favourite earthling music centre.

Step 2    Organise the instrument sounds of that centre into 3 groups: 

    Strings   -instruments that make their sound by moving strings

    Percussion -instruments that make their sounds by hitting, scraping and shaking.

    Wind   -instruments that make their sound by air blowing through them.

MISSION TASK 3   

Choose an instrument to take back to Xanthropia.

Step 1   Use your super intelligence of the Xanthropian Race to choose one instrument to take back to the people of Xanthropia.

Step 2   Print and use the Mission Report Worksheet to give details of why you chose this instrument.

MISSION TASK 4   

Create an instrument to take back to Xanthropia.

Step 1   Use your super intelligence of the Xanthropian Race to design an instrument to take back.

Step 2  Gather all the earthling materials you need to make your instrument.

Step 3   Make your instrument.
